Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network are committed to you. That’s why we’re offering all eligible* members and their dependents identity protection services through Experian. These services are available to you as long as you remain eligible and you won’t be charged.
Eligible members have the following services available to them:
- Experian IdentityWorksSM Identity Restoration: This service is automatically available to you with no enrollment required. If a problem arises, simply call 1-877-736-4495 and an Experian Identity Restoration Agent will help restore your credit and make sure your identity is returned to its proper condition. Be prepared to provide engagement number B098897 as proof of eligibility.
- Experian IdentityWorksSM Fraud Detection: While Identity Restoration is immediately available to you, we also encourage you to activate the fraud detection tools available through Experian IdentityWorksSM. This product provides you with superior identity detection, including:
- Experian credit report at signup: See what information is associated with your credit file*.
- Credit Monitoring: Actively monitors your Experian credit file for indicators of identity theft.
- Internet Surveillance: Technology searches the web, chat rooms & bulletin boards 24/7 to identify trading or selling of your personal information on the Dark Web.
- Identity Restoration: Identity Restoration Specialists are immediately available to help you address credit and non-credit related identity theft.
- Up to $1 Million Identity Theft Insurance**: Provides coverage for certain costs and unauthorized electronic fund transfers.
- Lost Wallet: Assistance with canceling/replacing lost or stolen credit, debit, and medical cards.
- Child Monitoring: For up to 10 children up to 18 years old, Internet Surveillance and monitoring to determine whether enrolled minors in your household have an Experian credit file are available. Also included are Identity Restoration and up to $1M Identity Theft Insurance**.

What is Experian Identity Works?
This service includes an Experian credit report at signup, credit monitoring, internet surveillance, identity restoration, identity theft insurance and child monitoring for minors.
Do I need to sign up for Experian IdentityWorksSM services?
Yes. You must enroll in order to take advantage of any of these services. If you’re interested in signing up, go to experianidworks.com/bcbsm. This is a secure website. When enrolling, you’ll need to provide your name, contact information, Social Security number and the promo code: MICHIGANPROTECTS. You can also sign up by calling 1-877-736-4495 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern Time, or Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time. Do I need to sign up annually?
Each adult who enrolls in Experian IdentityWorksSM will receive a renewal email from Experian at the end of each year. They’ll ask you to verify that you are still an eligible Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan or Blue Care Network member so you can keep your Experian Identity Works services active.
How does Experian monitor credit?
Experian looks at your credit activity and sends alerts when banks and creditors use your identity to open new accounts.
How does Experian Internet Surveillance work?
Technology searches the web, chat rooms & bulletin boards 24/7 to identify trading or selling of your personal information on the Dark Web.
What is the identity theft insurance policy, and how does it work?
Identity theft insurance is a zero-deductible policy included in the Experian Identity Works service. It provides coverage for certain costs and unauthorized electronic fund transfers associated with identity theft. What services are being offered to protect my child’s identity?
Any eligible dependent on your Blue Cross or BCN medical plan younger than 18 is covered by Child Monitoring if you enroll them in Experian IdentityWorksSM. For up to 10 children up to 18 years old, Internet Surveillance and monitoring to determine whether enrolled minors in your household have an Experian credit file are available. Also included are Identity Restoration and up to $1M Identity Theft Insurance.
When and how will I get alerts?
If you provide an email address upon enrollment, alerts will be sent to you via email anytime new activity is detected on your account. If you don’t have access to email, you can also receive your alerts by mail.
Does Experian monitor my existing bank accounts for fraudulent activity?
No, Experian doesn’t monitor daily activity of your bank or credit card accounts. You can monitor your bank accounts by setting up account alerts, which are provided, free of charge to customers by most banks and credit unions. Experian can assist eligible individuals in setting up these alerts for your credit card and bank accounts. It’s also recommended to review your monthly statements for unusual activity.
What do I do if I suspect insurance coverage or medical fraud?
If you believe someone has stolen your health care coverage, or you notice suspicious activity on your explanation of benefits, call Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s Anti-Fraud Hotline at 1-800-482-3787.
Who will Experian communicate with about these services?
You and any adult dependents on your plan who enroll in the Experian IdentityWorksSM service will receive a renewal email from Experian at the end of each year. If you and your dependents are still eligible for the services, you’ll need to verify your eligibility so they can extend your services for the following year. Experian will not email or call your dependents younger than 18 — you will need to verify their eligibility for them.
Will I be charged for these services?
As an eligible Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan or Blue Care Network member, you won’t be charged. The Experian IdentityWorksSM services are available to you and your dependents as long as you remain eligible.
